Last two weeks, in a mathematics formative lesson with my grade 5 students, I introduced a web-based simulation to support the learning of area in mathematics.

I set out to identify how learners would apply their understanding of the concept in building virtual 3D structures. However, when students completed the lesson, I discovered how the simulation ignited their creative skills; to apply not only their understanding but their creative skills.

Looking back on this activity, I think it is time for me to flood my class with various simulation platforms to help students bring out their creativity while learning to gain understanding.
